Van Gogh - his life and paintings
We learnt about the life of Vincent Van Gogh and his paintings. Did you know he worked as a missionary and, because he couldn’t sell his paintings, remained poor throughout his short life?
Our observations of his artwork revealed his talent for painting both landscapes and portraits.
He used a lot of browns and other dark colours when he lived in the Netherlands. On moving to France, he began to use brighter colours, particularly blues and yellows. We noticed his short brush strokes and the way he could get movement into his landscapes.
Vincent Van Gogh’s work was an inspiration for our artwork today. We created silhouettes in the foreground of our pieces of work. Then we drew two large wave shapes and extended these waves across the background. After that we chose hot or cold colours to create a warm or cold sky inspired by the famous artist and his colour choices. It will take another week or two for some of us to finish our landscapes. I think it should be worth the wait!
