Farm Safety talk with Camilla
Camilla from Farm Safety told us all about her work as a farm safety officer and how we can keep safe on the farm.
We learnt about the laws related to farm safely. For example, the law says that you can only be a passenger on a tractor when you are 13 years and older during an agricultural operation (e.g. cutting grass, spreading slurry). It is not lawful when the tractor is, for example, on the public road or going to the shop to get sweets). The training seat on tractors is for training purposes only - training young people to drive and operate the machine safely.
Young people of 13 years and older can drive a tractor if they have a tractor licence, a tractor of a certain horse power, the driver is insured and drives only on private lanes, yards and flat ground.
You can only drive a farm quad if you are aged 16 or older and have a quad licence. You must have a helmet. There should never be any passengers on a quad, no matter what age you are!
